Hi, I think you might be interested in my story. I’m 55 living in Fort Nelson British Columbia Canada . Last October the 6th I suffered a ruptured pulmonary artery and was evacuated by air ambulance to Vancouver for treatment at Vancouver General hospital. I’ve been diagnosed with bronchiectasis since 2010. I had a pulmonary embolization to close another artery in 2012. This time however they found that things were significantly worse. I was diagnosed with middle lobe syndrome and it had progressed to the point where surgery was the best option. When the surgery was offered as the best option I didn’t hesitate. I had suffered enough and felt my health decline. Between the time the the diagnosis was made and the surgery I started working with the lung society of bc to publicize bronchiectasis which is not that well known here.

I was on sick leave until the surgery but walked constantly and did yoga up until the time I went for surgery December the 18th. December 18th I had surgery to remove the middle lobe of my right lung. They had me up and walking the next day. 3 days later I was out of the hospital and christmas eve I was home. Doctors said to start walking as soon as I was able. Once I got my stitches out I went to my family doctor and asked him if he was ok with me training for a half marathon. He said yes go ahead. So I started training, in February this year I participated in the lung society of bc’s climb for clean air. That was the firs thing I did. Saw my surgeon the next day for my followup and told him what I was doing. He said “you’re attempting the half marathon?” I said no doc I’m doing it. There is no try.

Then 4 weeks later I did another half marathon in a time of 2:14:06

I realize that I am a very lucky man that I am able to do this. June 1 I had my followup CT done and it came back with minimal scarring and NO BRONCHIECTIC LESIONS remaining.

I will continue to run because it is a new beginning for me and I am running for everyone who is having a bad time dealing with our disease. I am looking at doing a full marathon next year

Thats all for now
